Embracing the slow pace on the Mon & Brec
Gareth Butterfield recently reviewed his Drifters holiday on the beautiful Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal in South Wales.
Travelling from our base at Goytre Wharf near Abergavenny, he embraced the slow pace on the Mon & Brec. Gareth holidayed with his wife, two dogs and pet lizard Boris.
They enjoyed cruising slowly through the Brecon Beacons National Park, weaving through ‘green and idyllic landscapes’. And mooring up for the night at picturesque stop-offs in quiet countryside and exploring towns and villages along the way.
Their favourites were Gilwern and Crickhowell and their turning point was Talybont-on-Usk.
Canal & River Trust volunteer lock keepers helped them through some of the locks.
Gareth explains on a canal boat holiday ‘as nature rolls by you feel completely immersed in it’. And the slow pace ‘helps you to slow down too, providing the perfect tonic to a life in the fast lane back on dry land.’
