This document explains how we process and protect your personal information.
Drifters is a marketing company which operates on behalf of its members in assisting customers to obtain information, receive brochures and make bookings with its members. Any information provided by visitors to this website will be treated in confidence and will only be shared with the appropriate member and those who administer this website and members’ booking systems. Drifters will not make available any information to anyone else.
Drifters does not operate any boats on its own account.
Cookies on our website collect information about browsing behaviour, with the type of device and IP address. This information is collected by Google. We can see aggregated Google reports, but can never see individual information. We collect no other information about the use of our website.
The Drifters website contains links to other sites, including third parties. When visitors use those links, Drifters has no control of such sites and cannot be held responsible for the protection and privacy rules of those sites. Some of those links are to members’ own websites.
Card details are ether entered directly into the secure payment server used by the hire company, or sent to them in a redacted fax, with missing information completed in a phone call.
The lawful basis for processing enquiries is Consent. The lawful basis for processing bookings is Contract between you and the hire company; Drifters and Waterways Holidays are never party to a contract with you.
Waterways Holidays retains personal information for no more than one month after dealing with an enquiry or booking.
The lead name and holiday dates are retained by Drifters for commission invoicing purposes. This information will be retained securely for seven years.
Drifters takes responsibility for the work of its subcontractor in handling your enquiry. Once a booking is made, responsibility passes to the operator of your boat.
Drifters sends regular e-newsletters to people who have asked for this to be done. Enrolment is via a secure form on our website. We collect the name and email address of those who choose to give us this information. The data is entered directly onto, and kept on, a secure server operated by a reputable third party, Mailchimp. The lawful basis for this processing is Consent. Your name and email address will be retained indefinitely, unless you withdraw consent. You may withdraw at any time by using the unsubscribe button at the foot of any of our newsletters, in which case no further emails will be sent.
Unsubscribed email addresses are deleted periodically. If you wish your details to be permanently deleted, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Drifters uses images on its website, in competitions and promotions. Drifters gives images to journalists for use in press reports. These images are provided by Drifters member companies, or supplied direct to Drifters by photographers. Images may also be supplied by customers, either to Drifters members, or to Drifters itself. Photographs are taken in public places and do not need consent from any individual pictured. Where customer photographs are used, consent for publication is obtained at the time of submission.
Competitions and promotions:
If you enter a Drifters competition or other promotion we will record your name and contact information. The lawful basis is Consent. After the closing date, winner(s) will be selected and notified. Subject to further consent, the names of winners may be published. The list of entrants will be destroyed within six months of conclusion of the competition or promotion.
Your rights are protected by law. They include:
- The right of access – to see what data we hold about you
- The right to rectification and data quality – so that incorrect data can be put right
- The right to erasure including retention and disposal – to ensure that all data about you is removed (unless we have the right or duty to keep it)
- The right to restrict processing – to require us not to process data that we keep
- The right to object, or to withdraw consent – to stop us sending you unwanted marketing material
