Britain's waterways

By Angela Whenman

On a warm summer day nothing beats a cruise along Britain's waterways. Wave to fellow boaters while meandering between picture postcard villages of a forgotten Britain.

At a leisurely 4mph, you'll find life unrushed aboard the well-maintained and equipped vessels by Drifters.

Moor up in the evenings and venture into a local village or enjoy sitting on deck with a bottle of wine and watch the world go by bliss! Although self catered, for an extra fee, Drifters will provide the essentials for you. But I advise you shop before you start, as there may not be convenient places on-route.

Be prepared for the British climate by taking wet weather gear, and some good books just in case, but you'd be hard stretched to find such a relaxing break.
