The ancient City of Chester

Drifters members serving this destination include Countrywide Cruisers from Brewood, Viking Afloat from Whitchurch, Anglo Welsh from Bunbury, Alvechurch Boat Centres from Anderton and Wrenbury and Black Prince from Acton Bridge .

Very few places adjacent to the waterway can vie with Chester when it comes to antiquity, and it is quite possible to moor by the ancient city walls in order to see the city centre, admire the architecture and take in the atmosphere.

The countryside around Chester is cattle country, with lush green meadows, trees and rolling hills – English countryside at its most picturesque, with small canal side villages and towns awaiting your exploration. There is a plethora of pubs offering good value food and drinks.

For those wanting to relax even further, you can moor up at Christelton, saving the locks up to Chester itself.

A regular bus service can take you into Chester City Centre. For the more adventurous, you can travel beyond Chester to Ellesmere Port, home of the Ellesmere Boat Museum , the largest collection or preserved inland waterway craft in the country. On the way, you may hear the roar of lions, or the trumpeting of elephants. You need not be concerned as the canal goes close to the wonderful Chester Zoo !
