The World's 100 Best Places to stay |
Duchess, a purple and black liveried canal boat, has suffered a few knocks in her time. No wonder, since she's the length of two double decker buses and generally operated by novices or children. On fine summer days, there's nowhere better for messing about on the water than a British canal, and six kilometres per hour is a great pace to travel. With beds for eight and an easy steering mechanism, Duchess is loved by kids (real and grown up). The pleasure of opening and closing locks can wear thin though, so bag a chair below deck as they near. |
